Laser Xanthelasma Removal

Elevate Your Eye Aesthetic — Non-Surgical Laser Treatment That Targets Xanthelasma with Precision

Xanthelasma is a skin condition marked by the development of soft, yellowish plaques or deposits that typically appear around the eyes, particularly on the inner corners of the upper or lower eyelids. While these cholesterol-rich formations are harmless and painless, they can become a cosmetic concern—especially as they grow or become more prominent over time.

At Babyface Beauty Wellness, we specialize in non-invasive, laser-based treatments for xanthelasma using Fotona®’s advanced laser technology. This highly precise method targets cholesterol deposits without harming the surrounding delicate skin, offering a safe and effective solution with minimal downtime.

Before and After

What Is Xanthelasma?

Xanthelasma (pronounced zan-thuh-LAZ-muh) is a type of xanthoma, or fatty deposit, that forms in the skin. These soft, yellowish plaques are made up of cholesterol, and while they are benign, they may be an external sign of underlying lipid disorders—especially in individuals with elevated cholesterol or triglyceride levels.

Typical Features of Xanthelasma:

  • Appearance: Soft, flat or slightly raised yellow patches with a smooth texture.
  • Location: Most commonly found near the inner corners of the eyelids, but can also occur elsewhere on the face or body.
  • Texture & Color: Pale yellow to light brown, often symmetric and well-defined.
  • Painless: These lesions don’t itch, bleed, or cause discomfort, though they can be cosmetically distressing.

Who Is at Risk?

While xanthelasma can occur in anyone, certain risk factors make some individuals more prone to developing it:

  • High cholesterol or triglyceride levels
  • Diabetes or insulin resistance
  • Liver disease
  • Hypothyroidism
  • Genetic predisposition
  • Advancing age, especially in those over 40

It’s important to note that xanthelasma can occur even in individuals with normal lipid levels, so a medical evaluation is recommended to assess underlying cardiovascular or metabolic conditions.

Laser Treatment: A Modern, Minimally Invasive Approach

Though xanthelasma poses no health risks, many patients opt for removal to enhance their appearance—especially given the high visibility of lesions around the eyes. Traditional methods such as surgical excision or chemical cauterization can be effective but often come with a higher risk of scarring or pigmentation changes.

Our advanced Fotona® laser treatment offers a safer, more refined alternative that focuses on cosmetic excellence and long-term results.

Why Choose Laser Treatment for Xanthelasma?

  • Exceptional Precision Around Delicate Areas

Using Er:YAG and Nd:YAG technology, the laser can accurately target cholesterol-rich plaques while leaving the surrounding skin untouched—ideal for the sensitive eyelid area.

  • Controlled, Layer-by-Layer Removal

The Er:YAG laser gently vaporizes the xanthelasma deposits one layer at a time, ensuring thorough removal while minimizing the risk of trauma to healthy tissue.

  • Low Risk of Heat Damage

With its “cold ablation” capability, the laser operates with minimal thermal effect, reducing the risk of burns or pigmentation changes in delicate skin.

  • Quick Recovery and Minimal Downtime

Since the laser treatment avoids cutting or sutures, healing is faster, with most patients experiencing only mild swelling or scabbing for a few days.

  • Reduced Risk of Recurrence

Laser treatment effectively eliminates the deposit’s core. When combined with cholesterol management and lifestyle changes, recurrence rates are significantly reduced.

  • Superior Cosmetic Outcome

The precision and control offered by the Fotona® system ensures smoother, more natural-looking skin post-treatment, with minimal risk of scarring—making it ideal for aesthetic areas like the eyelids.

What to Expect Before and After Treatment

Pre-Treatment Guidelines:

  • Medical Clearance: We do not treat suspicious or potentially malignant lesions. Any unusual growths must be evaluated by a physician prior to laser therapy.
  • Sun Protection: Avoid direct sun exposure for at least one week before your appointment to reduce risk of post-treatment pigmentation issues.
  • Clean Skin: Arrive with makeup-free, product-free skin around the treatment area.

Post-Treatment Care:

  • Apply Re-Epithelizing Cream: Use as directed to support healing and minimize dryness.
  • Expect Mild Swelling and Redness: Temporary erythema and edema are normal and may last up to 48 hours.
  • Scabbing Is Expected: A small scab may form over the treated area and typically resolves within 5–7 days.
  • Protect with Sunscreen: Apply SPF 30 or higher to the healing area daily to prevent pigmentation changes.

FAQS

Xanthelasma is benign. However, it can be a marker of high cholesterol, so it’s advisable to consult your doctor to rule out any underlying metabolic conditions.

Most patients describe the sensation as mild heat or tingling. The procedure is generally well tolerated, and numbing cream can be applied if necessary.

Most cases require only one session, but more extensive or deeper plaques may need a second treatment.

Recurrence is possible, particularly if cholesterol levels remain unmanaged. However, laser removal offers lower recurrence rates compared to other methods.

Our laser technology is designed for cosmetic sensitivity. When properly cared for post-treatment, the risk of scarring or discoloration is minimal.

Our Fotona® laser system has customizable settings to safely treat a range of skin tones, including those prone to hyperpigmentation.
