What is PRF? : Although PRP and PRF may be used similarly, the way both are prepared and how they work are a bit different. It was developed in France by Choukroun et al (2001). PRF offers a higher concentration of platelets while preserving the fibrin matrix without the need for anticoagulants. This matrix serves to retain the platelets, allowing for a gradual release in the injected areas. Once released, the platelets yield longer-lasting results in diminishing fine lines, wrinkles, and facial folds. An initial consultation is crucial in determining the most suitable treatment for your specific concerns and considering other relevant factors. PRF is entirely autologous, containing collagen type-1 lymphocytes alongside growth factors. This promotes natural reconstruction, boost collagen production, rejuvenates the skin, improves tissue quality, tightens the skin, and aids in lifting the face, neck, chest, and hands. It addresses skin discoloration, diminishes wrinkles, alleviates dark bags and hollow under eyes, and reduces nasolabial folds and tear troughs. Additionally, it assists with lip volumization and and addresses concerns to related to hair loss.
This approach to facial rejuvenation embraces a more natural method, utilizing your body’s own resources to activate growth factors and collagen production. This leads to the filling of lines, a revitalized complexion, and improved under-eye area discoloration and tear troughs.
PRF jumpstarts cell renewal and initiates collagen and elastin production, resulting in a lifting and volumizing effect on the skin. This transformative process is set in motion when PRF is introduced, prompting the skin to regenerate and revitalize itself with the aid of growth factors.
Where is PRF Used?:
Major Skin Areas (face, head, hands, & chest for micro-needling)
Under Eyes
Lips
Cheeks
Temples
Chin
Scalp (for hair restoration)
Contraindications: Smokers (it inhibits the body’s ability to heal). Acute and chronic infections, severe metabolic and systemic disorders, abnormal platelet function, blood disorders, chronic liver pathology, people on anti-coagulation therapy, people undergoing chemotherapy treatments, cancer patients, underlying sepsis and systemic use of coricosteroids within 2 weeks of the procedure.
Recommendation: We recommend a series of 3 PRF treatments spaced approximately 4-6 weeks apart for optimal results. Hence, we advise once every 6 months of annually upkeep injection once your series is finished. Consideration for Hyaluronic Acid fillers may be given 3-6 months after your third PRF injection. It may take up to 3-4 moths to observe long-term benefits, such as improved skin quality, increased collagen production, and enhanced skin tightening, which can last from 6-12 months. The initial volume boost will endure for 1 to 3 weeks. Two vials of your own blood will be used to stimulate your own cells to regenerate.
Expectations During the Procedure: During your treatment appointment, ensure you are adequately hydrated. We will collect two vials of blood, which will then be placed in a centrifuge. Following the spinning process, the PRF is isolated from the other blood components and extracted from the top of the vial. As the blood is centrifuged, you will be seated with numbing medication to minimize any discomfort. The PRF will be administered using a blunt-tipped cannula immediately after the spinning process is finished. The entire procedure for PRF Under Eye injections typically lasts about 40 minutes from start to finish.
Expectations After the Procedure: Following the treatment, it is normal to observe some swelling or bruising under the eyes. You might also notice a slight fullness in this area for about 3-5 days post-injection, along with a potential yellowish tint to the skin until the PRF naturally resolves. The effects of the treatment typically begin to manifest around the 1-2 month mark, as the structures and collagen beneath the eyes continue to regenerate. In most cases, there is minimal to no discomfort after PRF injections.
What Potential Issues or Complications May Arise From the PRF Treatment?: As with any type of injection, there is a potential for bruising, discomfort, and redness due to the needle used during the procedure. At BABYFACE, we prioritize your comfort and provide a topical numbing agent for the process. The PRF is administered to the under-eye area and tear trough using a blunt-tipped cannula, offering a needle-free technique that ensures precise application and significantly reduces the likelihood of bruising. Given that we are introducing a fluid-like substance under the eye, some degree of swelling or puffiness is anticipated, typically lasting around 3-5 days.
Is the PRF injection considered safe?: PRF is highly secure. The injections entail minimal side effects or risks as they exclusively involve your own blood without any additional additives or medications.
What is the duration of effectiveness for PRF Treatment?: Given that initial results typically manifest within 4-8 weeks post-PRF injection, with continued improvement over the following 3-6 months, most outcomes endure for approximately 1.5 years following the last injection. Consequently, we suggest an annual maintenance injection once your series is concluded.
