Milia Removal

Reveal Radiant, Bump-Free Skin with Advanced Laser Precision — The Trusted Solution for Stubborn Milia That Won’t Go Away

Milium cysts, commonly referred to as milia, are small, white or yellowish bumps that develop just beneath the surface of the skin. Though entirely harmless, these tiny cysts can be cosmetically bothersome, especially when they appear on visible areas of the face. They most commonly occur around the eyes, cheeks, forehead, and nose, and are often resistant to over-the-counter remedies or simple home care.

At Babyface Beauty Wellness, we offer a highly effective, minimally invasive laser treatment for milium cyst removal using advanced Fotona® technology. This modern approach ensures precision targeting, minimal discomfort, and a reduced risk of scarring, making it an excellent alternative to traditional extraction methods.

Before and After

Understanding Milium Cysts: What Are Milia?

Milia form when keratin—a natural protein found in skin, hair, and nails—becomes trapped beneath the outer layer of the skin. These cysts may look like whiteheads but are not acne-related and do not respond to typical acne treatments.

Types of Milia:

  • Primary Milia: These develop spontaneously, often seen in newborns but also common in adults. They are usually the result of underdeveloped oil ducts.
  • Secondary Milia: These form as a result of skin trauma, burns, long-term sun damage, or following cosmetic procedures such as dermabrasion or laser treatments.

Though milia are medically benign, many individuals choose to have them removed for cosmetic reasons or if they become persistent and resistant to home care.

Why Choose Laser Treatment for Milium Cyst Removal?

Laser removal of milium cysts is a modern, skin-friendly alternative to manual extraction. At our clinic, we utilize the Fotona® laser system, renowned for its precision and safety. Here’s why this treatment is a superior option:

Benefits of Laser Milium Cyst Removal:

  • Highly Targeted Precision: The Fotona® laser delivers controlled energy directly to the cyst, gently vaporizing the trapped keratin without damaging the surrounding skin. This precise targeting allows for safe treatment even in delicate areas like under the eyes or along the eyelids.
  • Minimally Invasive Procedure: Unlike traditional extraction methods that involve poking or squeezing the skin, laser treatment requires no incisions or mechanical pressure. This reduces trauma to the skin and the risk of post-procedure irritation or infection.
  • Minimal Discomfort: Most patients report that the procedure is comfortable and quick, with a mild warming or tingling sensation during treatment. There is no need for numbing cream in most cases.
  • Low Risk of Scarring: The laser gently vaporizes the cyst, avoiding cuts or punctures. This approach significantly minimizes the risk of scarring, especially on facial areas where cosmetic appearance is a concern.
  • Quick Recovery Time: The recovery process is typically brief, with most patients experiencing only mild redness or the formation of a tiny scab that falls off within a few days. You can return to your daily routine shortly after the treatment.
  • Ideal for Stubborn or Recurrent Milia: Some milia do not respond well to topical treatments or even professional extractions. Laser therapy is especially effective for recurrent or deep-seated cysts, offering a more permanent solution.

Pre-Treatment Guidelines:

Before undergoing laser treatment for milium cyst removal, follow these important steps:

  • Medical Clearance for Suspicious Lesions: If there’s any doubt that a lesion may be abnormal or cancerous, we require patients to receive clearance from their physician before proceeding. We do not treat lesions suspected of malignancy.
  • Cleanse the Skin: Arrive with a freshly cleansed face and no makeup or lotions on the treatment area.
  • Sun Protection: Avoid excessive sun exposure or tanning beds for at least one week prior to your appointment.

Post-Treatment Instructions:

Proper aftercare is essential to ensure optimal healing and reduce any chance of irritation or pigmentation changes:

  •  Apply a Re-Epithelizing Cream: Use the recommended healing cream as needed to soothe and protect the treated area.
  • Expect a Small Scab: It is normal for a tiny scab to form over the treated area. Do not pick or scratch—it will naturally fall off within 5–7 days.
  • Soothe the Skin: Aloe vera-based gels can help calm any temporary redness or irritation.
  • Avoid Direct Sunlight: Use a broad-spectrum SPF 30 or higher daily to protect healing skin and prevent hyperpigmentation.

FAQS

Most patients experience only a slight warming sensation. The procedure is quick and typically doesn’t require numbing agents.

Treatment time depends on the number of milia, but most sessions last 15-30 minutes.

The treated cysts do not usually return, but new milia may form over time, especially if the underlying cause persists (e.g., sun exposure or heavy skincare products).

Fotona® laser technology is precise and gentle, making it suitable for treating milia even around sensitive areas like the eyelids or under-eye region.

In most cases, one treatment is enough. However, individuals with numerous or recurrent milia may benefit from periodic follow-up sessions.

The Fotona® laser can be adjusted for various skin tones, making it a safe and effective choice for patients of all ethnicities.
