Instructions Before Dermal Filler Treatment:
- Refrain from taking aspirin or other non-steroidal anti-inflammatory drugs like Ibuprofen, Advil®, Motrin®, Nuprin®, Aleve®, Celebrex®, Fish oil, Gingko Biloba, St. John’s Wort, and high doses of vitamin E for at least 7-10 days prior to your appointment, unless medically necessary.
- If not contraindicated, you may take Tylenol® one hour before your appointment to alleviate any potential discomfort. If you have concerns about discomfort.
- If you are prescribed blood thinners such as Coumadin or Plavix, consult your prescribing doctor to determine if it’s possible to temporarily cease these medications for 7-10 days prior to your appointment and at least 2 days post-procedure.
- If you have a history of Herpes Simplex (cold sores) on your face, please inform the doctor you scheduled your appointment with at least one week prior. This allows us ample time to prescribe a medication to prevent an outbreak.
- Avoid dental procedures (including cleaning) for 2 weeks before and after receiving filler injections.
- Arrive at your appointment with a clean face. This means NO MAKEUP or MOISTURIZER.
- Have a small meal or snack before your appointment.
After Dermal Filler Treatment:
- Expect more pronounced bruising and swelling within the first 24-48 hours after receiving your dermal filler injections. Refrain from strenuous exercise for the remainder of the day following your injection(s). It might be best to avoid attending special events during this initial period.
- The majority of reactions to dermal fillers include redness, swelling, bruising, and tenderness after the injections. Typically, these effects diminish within a few days, but may persist for up to a week. Should any of these symptoms endure beyond a week, or if new symptoms arise, please reach out to our office.
- For alleviating swelling and soreness post-treatment, cold compresses can be applied. If not contraindicated, you may take Tylenol every 4-6 hours to manage any discomfort.
- Make-up application can commence a few hours after the treatment, provided there are no complications like open wounds, bleeding, or infection.
- In the initial 24 hours post-treatment, limit exposure to sunlight or UV lamps. Prolonged sun or heat exposure, as well as alcohol consumption, may lead to a temporary increase in redness, bruising, or swelling at the injection sites. If persistent swelling or redness occurs, it’s advisable to minimize exposure to sunlight or UV lamps until these symptoms subside (for at least 5-7 days). If sun exposure is unavoidable, use a sunblock with an SPF of 30 or higher, containing zinc oxide and/or titanium dioxide.
- To prevent displacement of the filler or increased blood flow to the face, refrain from strenuous exercise for 48 hours.
- Avoid taking aspirin (unless medically necessary) or other non-steroidal anti-inflammatory drugs like Ibuprofen, Advil®, Motrin®, Nuprin®, Aleve®, Celebrex®, Fish oil, Gingko Biloba, St. John’s Wort, and high doses of vitamin E for 5 days after the treatment, as these may heighten the risk of bleeding or bruising at the injection sites.
- For approximately 6 hours after the injections, refrain from excessive touching or massaging the treated areas. Use a gentle cleanser such as Cetaphil®, Cerave®, or Dove® unscented to wash the treated areas.
- Avoid dental procedures (including cleaning) for 2 weeks after receiving filler.
- We highly value your satisfaction! We recommend a follow-up visit to our office in 2 weeks to assess if a touch-up is needed. Any additional treatments required will incur charges at the standard rate. Patients are responsible for any additional medical treatment costs in the event of complications following the dermal filler procedure.
- Studies have demonstrated that scheduling a follow-up treatment before the product has fully dissipated can prolong its effectiveness. Consult your physician for advice on touch-up or follow-up treatments.
- Remember to apply sunscreen daily.
